Belize is situated on the northeastern coast of Central America facing the Caribbean Sea. While English is our official language, Belize is the only CARICOM member to also be considered a part of Latin America. We have a comparatively small but diverse population. By the end of the 1990s, Belize had opened its economy to nontraditional agricultural goods and manufacturing activities and our free-market economy continues to grow. Our primary trading partners include the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Mexico, Curacao, Panama, and CARICOM members. Our main exports include fish, sugar, citrus fruits, bananas, and textiles. Machinery and transportation equipment, food, fuels and lubricants, and chemicals are among our most important imports. Our service sector accounts for much of our GDP with tourism being our primary source of foreign exchange.

The Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) is the country's largest private-sector membership group. Founded in 1920, the Chamber has continually championed the issues of its private sector constituency. The Chamber views the social and economic development of Belize through the development of all sectors of industry, trade, and services to be among its key objectives. Furthermore, the Chamber has been the only recognized "Employers Organization'' in Belize since 1997 under the International Labour Organization's (ILO) tripartite social partnership. The BCCI now has a membership of about three hundred (350) Belizean businesses from a diverse range of agricultural, productive, service, and industrial sectors.

Our primary objectives are to foster the economic growth and social well-being of the nation through the promotion and protection of the free enterprise system at all levels, both nationally and internationally. Likewise, to advance commerce and all sectors of industry which includes agri-business, tourism, manufacturing, the professions, and the trades; and to continually strive to enhance the Chamber’s ability to better serve its members whilst operating as a self-sustaining, non-profit, non-political organization. Directed by an elected twelve-member Executive Council (EC) derived from the general membership, the Chamber has a full-time secretariat of seventeen who create, implement, and monitor the programs of the Chamber and its “for-profit” subsidiary units.

BCCI adopted the Triple C Philosophy in 2010: Connect, Capacitate, and Champion. We Connect by facilitating meaningful networking and connections among members nationally, regionally, and internationally. We Capacitate by enhancing the skills, abilities, and processes required by organizations to adapt and succeed in a fast-changing industrial world. We Champion our members' needs to foster a healthy business climate.
