Caribbean Chamber Engages with International Internet Organizations to Advance Digital Resilience for Caribbean Businesses

Caribbean Telecommunication Union (CTU) Government Official - Special Executive Briefing Session: "The State of Cyber Resilience: Securing a Digital Future"

16 May 2023 | PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - In a timely and forward-looking interaction, Executive Director of the Grenada Chamber of Industry and Commerce and Vice-Chair of the Caribbean Network of Chambers (CARICHAM), Petipha Lewis, met with the leaders of leading regional and international technology organizations to champion digital resilience and drive collaboration within the Caribbean region. The gathering took place at the Hyatt Regency in Port of Spain, Trinidad, on May 16, and focused on the critical role of the private sector in promoting best practices for digital transformation in the region.

During the meeting, Lewis delved into thought-provoking conversations with CTU Secretary General Rodney Taylor and ARIN Director for Caribbean Affairs, Bevil Wooding, placing digital resilience at the forefront of the deliberations. Recognizing the indispensable role of robust telecommunications infrastructure and effective internet governance, the trio explored avenues for greater collaboration between public and private sectors to propel economic growth and foster digital innovation and transformation across the Caribbean.

Expressing her enthusiasm for the meeting, Lewis stated, "I am thrilled to have participated in such important discussions. Digital resilience is a crucial necessity in our rapidly evolving technological landscape. By harnessing the power of collaboration, we can ensure that the Caribbean region takes full advantage of digital opportunities."

The meeting underscored the significance of private sector involvement in driving digital transformation. The participants emphasized the urgency of creating an environment that fosters innovation, promotes network autonomy, and paves the way for resilient telecommunications infrastructure.

Secretary General Rodney Taylor of the CTU conveyed his optimistic outlook on the meeting, stating, "The discussions reinforce the importance of collaborative efforts between the private sector and regional organizations in driving digital resilience. By sharing knowledge and expertise, we can collectively address the challenges ahead.”

Echoing similar sentiments, Bevil Wooding of ARIN added, "We greatly appreciate the engagement and vision expressed by Petipha Lewis and CARICHAM. This meeting emphasized the pivotal role the private sector plays. It has also highlighted the urgency of developing robust and secure digital infrastructure as well as investing in relevant human resource development to bolster the growth of economies throughout the Caribbean."
