CARICHAM signs MOU with CAJS

The Caribbean Chambers of Industry and Commerce (CARICHAM) and the Caribbean Agency for Justice Solutions (CAJS) have solidified their commitment to promoting justice sector modernization in the Caribbean through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The signing ceremony, held on Friday 28 July 2023, at the Regional Office of CAJS in Belize City, Belize, marks a significant milestone in advancing private sector advocacy for digital transformation in courts and greater adoption of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms throughout the region.
The MOU, officially signed by Ms. Petipha Lewis, Chair of CARICHAM, and Mr. Bevil Wooding, Executive Director of CAJS, showcases the organizations' joint dedication to promoting court modernization, greater access to justice, and digital capacity building for businesses in the Caribbean region.
Mr. Wooding expressed that the partnership is a positive development for the Caribbean, stating, "This historic collaboration between the CAJS and CARICHAM will address the critical need for strengthening alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, such as mediation and arbitration, and help bolster the overall business environment and economic climate.”
He shared that such options offer businesses flexible, collaborative, less costly approaches to resolving conflicts and foster an environment of trust and confidence among businesses.
Ms. Lewis echoed Mr. Wooding's sentiments, emphasizing the tangible benefits to businesses resulting from efficiently running courts and dispute resolution mechanisms. She commented, "CARICHAM is thrilled about this strategic partnership with CAJS, as it highlights the pivotal role of streamlined justice systems in driving business success in the Caribbean. This MOU will equip our private sector with the tools and resources to access efficient courts and more modern dispute resolution mechanisms."
The signing of the MOU signifies the commitment of both CAJS and CARICHAM to driving positive change and enhancing the overall business landscape in the Caribbean. The organizations plan to deliver targeted programs and develop resources to support greater knowledge sharing among stakeholders and advocate for justice sector modernization.
